Musical Projects
Cough & Laugh might be an odd name for a label, but so too is the music it has thus far put out wonderfully unusual. Kai Kan’s opening cut here ‘Oversleep’ is a glitchy and abstract minimal rhythm with scraping, scratchy sounds and scattered hits over a warped low end, busted bass blasts and plenty of malfunctioning machine sounds. ‘Snore’ is another freaky late-night sound track for narcotic after-parties that features samples of people snoring. Last of all is ‘Dodoitsu,’ a more elastic rhythm but one again peppered with paranoid sounds, whispers, hums and distant hits. Inventive stuff.
